Ok, let me just say now – this is not how you make Pilau rice. I looked up a recipe online and had almost none of the stuff needed for it, so sniffed all my spices and decided which ones smelled right and chucked them in. In my defence, it did look, and taste the business, so I’m going with it!
This is the recipe I butchered 😀
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup basmati rice
2 teaspoons turmeric
2 teaspoons garam masala
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 & 1/2 cups boiling water
Melt the butter in a pan with a tight fitting lid.
Add the rice & stir until coated with the butter.
Add the spices & salt (optional)) & stir until evenly covered.
Add the water, simmer with lid on a low heat or 15 minutes or until cooked. If you can avoid stirring it’s best, but if you feel you have to it won’t really matter.
Drain any excess water & serve.
